{"id":1198,"date":"2020-06-22T19:58:05","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T18:58:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloud9accountingteam.co.uk\/?p=1198"},"modified":"2020-06-22T19:58:27","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T18:58:27","slug":"job-retention-scheme-extended-to-october-greater-flexibility-less-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cloud9accountingteam.co.uk\/sk\/job-retention-scheme-extended-to-october-greater-flexibility-less-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Job Retention Scheme Extended to October: Greater Flexibility, Less Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"article2\"><strong>JOB RETENTION SCHEME EXTENDED TO OCTOBER: GREATER FLEXIBILITY, LESS SUPPORT<\/strong><\/div>\n<div id=\"content\">\n<p>Last month the Chancellor announced that the Job Retention Scheme for furloughed employees would be extended until October, and further details have now been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The Job Retention Scheme has been a lifeline for businesses adversely affected by Coronavirus, allowing employers to furlough employees, and recover 80% of their wages from the government from March 2020 to June 2020, subject to a cap of \u00a32,500 per employee per month.<\/p>\n<p>However, with many businesses still badly affected by the pandemic, we welcomed Rishi Sunak\u2019s announcement on 12 May that the scheme will be extended until 31 October 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The extended scheme brings added flexibility from 1 July 2020 for employers wishing to bring employees back to work on reduced working hours. This will allow employers to bring furloughed staff back to work part time, paying them for the hours worked, but with the remainder of their salaries paid at 80% of their normal wage level (employers can top this up if they wish) and eligible for a claim under the Job Retention Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Further guidance on how this added flexibility will work in practice will be released on 12 June 2020. But, crucially, the extension to the scheme from 1 July 2020 onwards will only apply to employees that had already been furloughed and the scheme will close to new entrants on 30 June 2020. Since any period of furlough must be for at least 3 weeks, this means that\u00a0<strong>the Job Retention Scheme will only be available beyond 1 July 2020 for those employees furloughed on or before 10 June 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, if you are considering furloughing an employee for the first time due to reduced work as a result of COVID-19, and then bringing them back part-time, you will need to act fast to obtain government support for them under the Job Retention Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>While the scheme will become more flexible from 1 July 2020, the level of financial support will be tapered from 1 August 2020, as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For June and July 2020 support continues at 80% of gross wages for furloughed employees (capped at \u00a32,500), with Employers NIC and pension contribution also covered;<\/li>\n<li>For August 2020 support continues at 80% of gross wages (capped at \u00a32,500), but employers will need to pay the Employers NIC and pension contributions;<\/li>\n<li>For September 2020 support reduces to 70% of gross wages (capped at \u00a32,187.50), with employers to pay the remaining 10% of gross wages so that furloughed employees receive 80%, plus they must pay the Employers NIC and pension contributions on the wages paid;<\/li>\n<li>For October 2020 support reduces to 60% of gross wages (capped at \u00a31,875), with employers to pay the remaining 20% of gross wages so that furloughed employees receive 80%, plus they must pay the Employers NIC and pension contributions on the wages paid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JOB RETENTION SCHEME EXTENDED TO OCTOBER: GREATER FLEXIBILITY, LESS SUPPORT Last month the Chancellor announced that the Job Retention Scheme for furloughed employees would be extended until October, and further details have now been confirmed.
